CoderDojo Brisbane kicked off Term 2 sessions on Saturday at Sunnybank Hills and Garden City Library.
At both locations, we had a full room of participants who were all excited, eager and enthusiastic to learn about the wonderful world of coding. A big thank you to all our mentors who did a fantastic job helping the kids.
Garden City Library
At Garden City Library, our mentor Peter did a wonderful job getting the kids excited about coding. We started with watching a quick video about ‘why kids should code’ that featured the likes of Facebook creator, Mark Zuckerberg, Black Eyed Peas and music producer, Will.i.am, Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, NBA superstar Chris Bosh and many others. Peter highlighted to the kids that those coding superstars started just as they are – sitting in a room coding.
Afterwards, our regular participant Matthew did an excellent Scratch demonstration to the group, with Peter then doing a HTML demonstration to the more advanced kids.
At this Saturday’s session, we’ll continue working on Scratch and some HTML and see what the kids can create!
Sunnybank Hills Library
At Sunnybank Hills Library, mentor John did the introductions and with the help of our regular Sunnybank Hills mentors, Jayden, Young, Chey and Morry, got the kids excited to start coding with Scratch.
Morry then did a fantastic robotics demonstration to the kids, which they loved! Sunnybank Hills Library will have Morry and the robots for another week, he will then be travelling to Garden City Library (May 17th and May 24th) and Indooroopilly Library (May 31st and 7th June) afterwards to give the other participants a go at programming the robots.
Another huge thank you to all our mentors, participants and parents for coming to the sessions and showing such high levels of energy and enthusiasm – we couldn’t do it without you all.
We hope you’re looking forward to the upcoming sessions!
