CoderDojo Brisbane is proud to be the first CoderDojo running in Australia and is a Brisbane Marketing initiative of the Digital Brisbane Strategy.
The story so far…
CoderDojo Brisbane was introduced with the goal of fostering a greater level of interest in coding among young people, creating a new generation of digitally literate citizens, who have the ability not only to consume technology, but to create digital products.
CoderDojo Brisbane was launched in July 2013 with a 6-week pilot program held at Brisbane Square Library. The pilot program reached over 30 kids with the help of 15 mentors teaching them to code in a fun and engaging way.
The pilot program was a great success, the program now runs seven permanent locations around Brisbane. To date, CoderDojo Brisbane has held over 270 sessions, reaching almost 1800 kids, with over 550 registered mentors.
Some of the areas our mentors have exposed the kids to so far include:
- Python & Pythonista
- Makey Makey
- A 3D printer
- Game development
You can find more information about these programs on our Resources page.
CoderDojo Brisbane is continually looking for new mentors to get involved with their local club, whether you are a coder by trade, studying or just have an interest in coding, we want to hear from you. Remember, parents can be volunteer mentors too, the more hands on desk, the better the experience!
