A big thanks to the participants and parents who came along for the first session of Term 3 CoderDojo Brisbane at Carindale and Sunnybank Hills libraries on Saturday.
Another big thanks goes out to all of our participating mentors — Without the mentors our CoderDojo program wouldn’t run!
The term kicked off to a great start with the introduction of Scratch challenges at both locations. Scratch is a programming language and online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.
Chermside kicks off this weekend at Chermside Library from 12.30 – 2.30pm. Please make sure you bring:
- A laptop
- Laptop charger
- A snack
- A signed permission form
Just a reminder that parents are required to stay for the duration of the session each week if their child is aged 15 or under. If your child can’t make it to a session please notify us ASAP to keep the mentors informed.
The Mt Ommaney session will start Saturday 9 August from 12.30 – 2.30pm at the Mt Ommaney Library.
Week 2 sees CoderDojo return to Carindale where Scratch challenges will continue from level 1 to 4. Mentor Morry will also be doing some robot demonstrations with participants including coding the robots using scratch to follow commands.
The Sunnybank Library session will also continue on with the Scratch challenges for week 2. There’s also the chance to start learning HTML basics as well as be introduced to Alice.
Thanks again, see you this weekend!
Note – We are always looking for mentors to help us with our sessions. If you are interested or know someone who might be please contact us at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
